Description
Episode 3

Be A Pal!™”

Mattel© Product - 2001

A red-haired beauty, a comedic genius, an American icon: Lucille Ball is adored by the lovers of I Love Lucy®. As the zany wife of a Cuban bandleader, Lucy has kept audiences laughing for fifty years. Her show first appeared on television on October 15, 1951, and went on through 179 unforgettable episodes. And ever since, her screwball escapades have been broadcast and rebroadcast, enchanting generations around the world.

On October 22, 1951, Episode 3, entitled Be A Pal™, first aired. Lucy Ricardo feared that the romance was leaving her marriage. Her best friend, Ethel, recommends a book, “How to Keep the Honeymoon from Ending.” Chapter One suggests that a wife be dazzling and sophisticated, but Lucy gets nowhere with the inattentive Ricky. Chapter Two suggests the “Be A Pal System” in which the wife is a buddy and shares her husbands interests. When Lucy tries her hand at Ricky’s weekly poker game, the ante antics are not appreciated and Ricky is more distracted than ever. Chapter Three suggest one last ditch effort – become his “mother” and re-create his happy childhood. So the Ricardo’s Manhattan apartment becomes a Havana hacienda, complete with serape-wrapped Ethel and a live donkey! Dressed in a ruffled, south-of-the-border gown, Lucy lip-synchs and dances to the Brazilian music classic, “Mama Yo Quiero.” How could Ricky help but fall in love again?
