“L.A. at Last!™”
Mattel© Product - 2002
Everybody loves “I Love Lucy®”. From October 1951 until May 1957, Lucy and Ricky Ricardo created 179 hilarious episodes. The fun-filled situation comedy of a wacky housewife and her handsome, bandleader husband are still enjoyed today all around the world.
During the fourth season of the series, a talent scout offers Ricky an audition for a film version of the story of Don Juan. After a screen test, the Ricardos and their best friends, the Mertzes, take a cross-country trek, filled with mischief and misadventures.
First broadcast on February 7, 1955, “L.A. at Last!™” finds the foursome in Hollywood. Ricky suggests that Lucy, Fred, and Ethel take in the sights while he goes to the studio. Anxious to see movie stars, the trio goes to the famed Brown Derby Restaurant. Lucy is thrilled to see William Holden seated in an adjacent boot. Lucy gawks at the handsome actor, until he embarrasses her by starring back. As she scurries out of the restaurant, Lucy accidentally causes a platter of desserts to land on her idol. As fate would have it, Ricky meets William Holden at the studio and accepts his offer of a ride back to the hotel. Ricky invites Holden up to their suite to meet his biggest fan, Lucy. Mortified by her previous encounter, Lucy disguises herself with glasses, scarf, and an oversized putty nose, which she manages to catch on fire, and then comically extinguishes with a cup of coffee! Holden shoes himself to be a gentleman, despite all of Lucy’s antics, and doesn’t let on he’s already met the zany redhead. In return, Lucy gratefully rewards him with a kiss.
